About Minato

Laden with embassies and packed full of international and cosmopolitan leanings, Minato City, or Minato-ku, is one of Tokyo's 23 special wards. With its shrines, parks, museums and landmarks, Minato City has more than enough to keep visitors entertained.

A defining icon of Minato’s skyline is Tokyo Tower. This red, Eiffel Tower-esque structure stands bright against the muted tones of the city and at night, lights up in multitude of colors. Be sure to visit one of the tower’s observation decks for breathtaking panoramas of the city. Beside Tokyo Tower is Shiba Park, the largest park in Minato. This expanse of greenery is a popular viewing spot for Tokyo Tower, and is home to Zojoji Temple, making it a perfect nature getaway from city life.

Satisfy your artistic side at one of Minato’s renowned museums. Admire ancient East Asian art at Nezu Museum, contemporary art at Mori Art Museum, and fine art, such as Monet, Renoir, and Van Gogh paintings, at The National Art Center.

For an unforgettable entertainment experience, visit Roppongi Hills. This partially-outdoor, partially-indoor complex is home to a Japanese-style garden, an observation deck, movie theaters, high-end shops, and restaurants. The sophisticated area truly has something for everyone and is renowned for its lively nightlife. Continue your entertainment journey at Tokyo Midtown, just a few minutes walk from Roppongi Hills. This “city within a city” includes shops, restaurants, museums, nature, apartments, offices, and a luxury hotel.

After a day of sophistication, head to the Shimbashi (or Shinbashi) district of Minato for a more down to Earth experience among the streets’ izakaya and restaurants. Train enthusiasts will especially enjoy the steam locomotive located outside of Shimbashi Station, which commemorates Japan’s railway history.
