Do you like ruins? I do! They always inspire my curiosity. Unfortunately I couldn't find any information about this sloping, tree covered corner full of tumbled rocks behind Hachiman Jinja in Kofu. Some of the rocks were large, and possibly had cut edges. The trees were clearly not ancient, so perhaps they grew up after whatever was here was destroyed in the bombing of Kofu during World War Two. You can follow a path through the trees to Hachiman Jinja.

Mysterious Rocks at Hachiman Jinja
Could it be a ruined garden or building?

By Cathy Cawood

Looking through a gap between two huge rocks

This seems to be an entrance, but there are only trees and rocks here

A small shrine, no bigger than most O-jizo shrines, stands among the trees at the entrance

Large rocks are embedded in the earth under the trees

A small ridge with tumbled rocks

A shrine 'donation' bearing somebody's name

Is it my imagination or do the rocks have cut edges?

The trees look fairly young, so perhaps this is the site of a ruin
