I like to go back to my favorite temples a few times a year so that I can enjoy how they change with the seasons. Zojo-ji is one of them. The obvious draw in late winter and early spring are the plum (ume) and cherry (sakura) blossoms. Combine that with its easy access (four different train lines stop near the temple), the hauntingly beautiful jizo statues, the Buddhist chants spilling over into the grounds from the temple, and the ever-present, ever-majestic Tokyo Tower towering overhead, and you have one of the most interesting temples in the city.

Zoji-ji Temple in spring
A beautful combination of colors, textures and shapes
The temple building is new, but beautiful. The original was destroyed during the bombings of WWII
Jizo statue
Huge 150 year old cedar near the temple's front gate
Each of the jizo is unique in its own way
The ever present Tokyo Tower seems to be a part of Zojo-ji
Some of the jizo have fresh flowers lovingly provided
Tokyo Tower watches over the temple
The long row of jizo goes on and on and on
Some of the jizo have been here a long time, while others are much newer
And many of the jizo are dressed up with care
