The Garden of Life 2020-2021

Eight contemporary artists venture into nature

Humans and nature have been intertwined since the dawn of time, and we have adapted to the various landscapes and conditions that Earth presents. In saying that, the modern era means that often we're so engrossed in our phones - or other technology - that we forget the natural world exists and that we are part of it. The events of 2020, particularly the impact of the novel coronavirus, have seen many of us reconnecting with nature and the wonders it brings.

The Garden of Life exhibition taking place at Tokyo's Teien Art Museum re-examines the relationship between humans and nature through the works of eight Japanese contemporary artists. There will be paintings, sculptures, and more on display which explore this unique connection.

Getting there

The Teien Art Museum is located 7 minutes on foot from Meguro Station on the JR Yamanote Line (East Exit) and the Tokyu Meguro Line (Main Gate). Alternatively, it's a 6 minute walk from Shirokanedai Station (Exit 1) on the Toei Mita Line.

For those who plan to drive, there is paid parking available on the museum grounds. It is charged at a rate of ¥800 for one hour, and then an additional ¥400 per half hour thereafter.

I like that it focuses on art and nature, I think there's a lot of inspiration that can come from the natural world.
