When
Dec 1st 2020 - Jan 24th 2021

A special event taking place at the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum looks at the history of early Japanese photography, with a specific focus on images from the Kanto Region from 1853 until 1912.

There will be exhibits focused on the photography technology that was available at the time, portraits of samurai, and photos of Edo (modern-day Tokyo), Yokohama, and Yokosuka which were taken by foreigners during the Bakumatsu period (1853-1868), otherwise known as the latter years of the Edo period when Japan opened itself up to the outside world.

Adult admission to the event is priced at 700 yen.

Getting there

The Tokyo Photographic Art Museum is located around 7 minutes on foot from the East Exit of the JR Ebisu Station. For those planning to drive, there is no dedicated parking lot - it is advised to park in the nearby paid Yebisu Garden Place lot (details can be found here).
