After a 30-minute walk from Saino-ko Lake in a steady drizzle, we heard a lapping sound emanating from an unseen shore. A few minutes later, we were standing on a 2km long stretch of sand and wetlands that border the west side of Chuzen-ji Lake. No cars are permitted here, so it is quiet and clean. Access to Senju-ga-hama is basically limited to Eco-friendly buses, ferryboats, and by foot. Wavering clouds and mist hid parts of the mountains towering high above the lake.

Freshness after a rain

Community writer

The shoreline stretches over 2km

Kurinso, a type of primrose, is one of the lovely late spring flowers to be found here.

Some of the trees in the area are enormous and old.

It rains everyday in spring, so everything is wet and fresh.

The clouds and mist dancing in and around the mountains.

All kinds of plants and trees have found a home in these wetlands.

The nearby mountains and woods are lush and green.

The ferryboat arriving at the beach.

A lot of driftwood collects along the shore.

Where there is wetlands, there is moss.
