While staying at Hotel Daisenya I was delighted to find out their own pottery studio where you can try your hand at making Japanese ceramics. I was thrilled the have the chance to try and reproduce some of the incredible pottery I’ve seen on travels across Japan. Two other guests had also decided to indulge in this rare opportunity so the experience was even more enjoyable. There’s a display of premade items for you to chose from and I found it hard to make a decision but after some thinking I chose yunomi (a type of narrow Japanese tea cup used for everyday occasions). With guidance from the master ceramicist, I was actually surprised I made something of reasonable quality. When finished you can also choose your glaze but you have to wait for the piece to be sent to you by post as firing will not take place during your stay.

The samples are nice to look at and give you an idea of how to imitate their design when you come to make your own
