I used to live near this small shrine at the foot of the mountains, and I visited it often because it was the starting point of a hiking trail up to Higashiyama Driveway and Shogunzuka. Although there is nothing particularly impressive about it, I always found something worth photographing every time I went there. These photos were taken in summer.

The water basin has kanji carved on the front

Ancient stone guardian with a necklace of straw rope

Copper bell and multi-colored rope

Gold colored metal plating on the wooden steps

Faded straw rope tassel hanging from the torii

I don't think these tiny statues are Japanese!

Ring the bell to get the god's attention before you pray

Red and white lanterns either side of stone steps

Simple aluminum water scoops rest on green bamboo

One of the shrine buildings

This building stands in the center of a gravel courtyard

Stone torii and lanterns at the entrance to Rokusho Shrine

Stone lanterns and paper lanterns

A beautiful old apex roof tile, possibly from an earlier incarnation of the shrine
