Yokohama has three famous old towers. The main governmental office building of Kanagawa prefecture is called “King” with affection. The building has a 49-meter tower in the middle of the structure that resembles a crown. The building was rebuilt in 1928 after it was destroyed by fire in the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923. The design was chosen in a public contest. It’s brown outside walls are covered with scratched unglazed tiles, and the emerald green roof decoration is quite refined. An index of this series is here.

The Three Face Cards of Yokohama 1
King—Kanagawa Prefectural Office

Community writer

King seen from a distance is stately and proud.

The King's dignified crown.

King has a life after 6.

Looking up at King. He deserves our respect.

The entrance hall of King is quite elegant.

King is surrounded by an outer wall that is covered with ivy.

King actually houses the prefectural governmental offices.

This view resembles Wall Street.

Well trimmed azaleas keep King looking sharp.

From here (standing directly in front of King) you can see Jack, King, and Queen.

Yokohama lights up most of her elegant buildings at night.
