About Sagamihara

Nestled in the northwestern part of Kanagawa Prefecture lies Sagamihara, a vibrant city with life and history. As the third most populous city in the prefecture, after Yokohama and Kawasaki, Sagamihara stands as the fifth most populous suburb within the Greater Tokyo Area.

The city's origins date back to the late 1930s when neighboring towns merged due to the establishment of a Japanese army camp. Since 1955, Sagamihara has developed industrially, with a wide range of sectors from metal production to electrical appliances, making it a key residential suburb connected to the Tokyo-Yokohama metropolitan corridor via a well-established rail network.

While Sagamihara's urban landscape is filled with vitality, its natural allure captivates visitors and locals alike. Lake Sagami is an artificial lake that stands as a beacon of recreation, attracting rowing and canoeing enthusiasts to its peaceful waters. Encircled by lush forests that change with each season, the lake offers a range of experiences, from lively fireworks displays to the peaceful art of Japanese pond-smelt fishing. The lake is also in close proximity to the popular theme park Sagamiko Resort Pleasure Forest, which is home to rides, climbing courses, a campsite, and spectacular illumination events!

Adding to its charm, Sagamihara hosts a unique attraction, the Vending Machine Park. A testament to Japan's prevalent vending culture, this park features around 100 retro-style vending machines on a spacious porch and indoor corridor, offering a delightful exploration of convenience and innovation.
