A two and a half hour drive from Chiba, Fukuroda Falls is one of Japan's three most renowned waterfalls. About 15 million years ago, this area was actually covered by the sea, but a volcano erupted resulting in the creation of Fukuroda Falls. When I went in early November the leaves hadn't quite changed color fully but it was still breathtaking. When the weather is cold enough, the falls actually freeze resulting in a beautiful cascade of frozen ice, or hyobaku, in Japanese.
