Shin Kobe Station is perhaps one of the very few bullet train stations in a natural and picturesque setting, and at the same time being directly connected with Tokyo. The station is at the base of Mount Maya and it is surrounded by natural beauty with a hiking trail starting just behind the station.

Night-time view of Shin Kobe bullet train station. The station is near to the old foreign settlements in Kitano-cho, and if you have some time left and the area is pretty good for a nice French or Italian dinner before you leave Kobe.
The Shin Kobe bullet train station. The station is accessible within 10 minutes from Kobe's city center of Sannomiya. The ropeway to Mount Maya and the hiking trail starts on the opposite side of the station.

Just next to the ticket gate of the station is a place where you can get an English breakfast for just 500 yen, with unlimited coffee refills—yummy!
