If you're visiting Kobe this August, make time for the Oumi Summer Festival, a lively three-day celebration held at Ikuta Shrine. This seasonal event brings together music, food, and hands-on fun suitable for all ages.

The festival takes place at Oumi Shrine, which is located on the south side of the Ikuta Shrine grounds. Dedicated to Sarutahiko-no-Mikoto (a deity of travel and maritime safety), the event highlights Kobe's local spirit through a mix of traditional and modern attractions.

Festivities kick off on Friday evening with a special performance by Super Strings Kobe, a professional string ensemble with members active in Japan and abroad. Their string quintet will take the stage at the opening ceremony starting around 5:30pm.

In addition to music, the festival features a sports experience corner where visitors can try hands-on activities hosted by local teams. One of the highlights will be a rugby challenge with the women’s team Kobe Fast Gyro, taking place on Saturday, August 2nd at 3pm. It’s a great opportunity for kids and first-timers to try out a new sport with guidance from the players.
