In early autumn back in late September this year, I was searching for a place where I could see spider lilies. A friend of mine told me that he saw them blooming along a river in front of the gate of Asakura Ruins. He said there weren't many, nonetheless they were beautiful. So I drove 30 minutes from the center of Fukui City to Ichijodani valley where the ruins are located. Here they were, scarlet spider lilies blooming along the river making a stark contrast against green fields stretching around the ruins. I knew Asakura Ruins was beautiful throughout the year, but seeing the spider lilies in bloom I learned anew that it was true.
