Yokokan in Fukui City was once a villa of Fukui Matsudaira Clan (which governed the Fukui region in the Edo Period), and it was designated as one of Japan's Special Places of Scenic Beauty in 1982. Especially, its beautiful Japanese garden is always ranked high among the top 10 ranking of all Japanese Gardens. At this beautiful historical site, an illumination event is held annually in spring. Although many people visit here on this special occasion, silence reigns the air and only thing you hear is gentle murmurs of spectators' admiration and a soft sound of a Chinese violin carried by a spring breeze. It's conveniently located at a 15-minute-walk from JR Fukui Station.
