When I was driving home from Heisenji Hakusan Shrine in Katsuyama City, I spotted a beautiful bamboo grove along the way. I found a bamboo doll workshop there, nestled in a museum-like building. The place is called 'Echizen Bamboo Doll Village', and various kinds of traditional bamboo dolls were exhibited. Impressed, I took many pictures, and then I saw a small gallery in the corner of the building. It was 'Gallery Reimei', where the works of a legendary bamboo doll artist Reimei Morota (1931-2010) were displayed. It's hard to describe how I felt when I saw his works. I became speechless, and like a mad woman took hundreds of pictures. If you ever come to Fukui, don't miss the golden opportunity to see his works with your own eyes!

These are simply stunning. It's hard to believe that the hair is made out of bamboo ... it looks so fine!
