On Hirokoji-dori in the middle of Toyohashi, Saiko-ji is a small but appealing temple, worth stopping off at for a look if you're in the area. It's distinguished by the interesting Indian-style relief carvings at the gate, and a few Buddhist statues in the grounds. Along with a shrine I found just down the road, it's a reminder that even in the middle of a busy city, it's always possible to find somewhere to take in Japan's spiritual tradition.
