The old inn town of Akasawa-juku is well worth visiting for the views, the history, the beauty and the peace of the place, however there are no shops and only one restaurant. Luckily it's a good one. In fact, Musashiya soba shop is something quite special. It is located in one of the beautiful old wooden inns, and the views from the windows are lovely. The atmosphere is comfortable and homey. They serve hand-made soba noodles, tempura, and various side dishes making good use of fresh local vegetables and other ingredients.

Cold soba noodles

The sign says they are serving newly harvested soba

One of the cooks behind the counter

Perfect green tea and an interesting array of starter dishes

Tofu topped with root vegetable (some kind of potato?) and katsuo-bushi

Scrumptious tempura

The yellow flecks look healthy and pretty, but I don't know what they are

The tatami room eating space feels friendly and has interesting pictures

Low tables with cushions on tatami matting. There were a few seats at a western style table, but I like sitting on the floor.

The banner says that the soba noodles are hand-made
