Around 25,000 camellia trees bloom at this annual event

Venue

When
Mid Feb - Mid Mar 2025

Around 25,000 camellia trees in 60 species are planted around the foot of Mount Kasayama in Hagi, Yamaguchi Prefecture, and the flowers are usually at their best from the mid-February to late March timeframe. During this period the annual Hagi Camellia Festival takes place, drawing visitors from both across Japan and abroad to admire their beauty.

On weekends and holidays during the festival dates, a variety of fun additional activities take place – there are guided tours around the camellia grove (running from 10:00 until 15:30), vendors selling camellia saplings and other local goods, music and cultural performances on Sundays, and more.

Admission to the event is free of charge, but do bring yen if you plan on purchasing goods.

Getting there

The Kasayama Camellia Grove is located around 10 minutes by taxi from Koshigahama Station, which is served by the San'in Main Line.
