Koyasan is the center for Shingon Buddhism and perhaps one of the most beautiful places in Japan. A great way to experience this unique and preserved culture is by staying in a temple. Ekoin is great option being just a stone's throw away from the famed Okunoin Cemetery. At Ekoin, you are invited to observe or take part in meditation and ceremonies, each of which are intricate and beautiful in their own right. Traditional breakfast and dinner is provided with your stay that you can eat while enjoying the gorgeous views the rooms have to offer. I would recommend that any traveler make this unique opportunity a must on their itinerary.

I love this short documentary of Ekoin, one of my favorite temples on Koyasan. I know all the monks featured and have stayed at Ekoin many times over the last 10 years, both by myself and with my customers. I love the fact that they offer Ajikan meditation, morning prayer and goma fire ceremony, and also do a guided tour through Okunoin graveyard in the evening! They are amongst those temples on Koyasan who prepared well for foreign visitors and they offer the meditation and the walk in English.

Oh, how nice. We stayed at this very temple when we visited Koya-san two years ago. Thank you for the beautiful video. I especially enjoyed the contrasting between busy city life and peaceful Koya-san. What did you shoot with, if I may ask?
