Kansui Park

Relax in the wide open spaces of this waterfront park

Kansui Park, also know as Fugan Canal Park, is much loved by the people of Toyama City as a place to visit for a refreshing break or to enjoy a lazy afternoon. It has many wide green lawns spotted with trees where you can find the perfect place to spread out a blanket and while away the afternoon with a book or chat with friends.

The park is beautifully landscaped around a wide canal that flows through the center of the park. With delicate explosions of cherry blossoms in the spring, verdant greenery in the summer, fiery foliage in the fall, and quiet blankets of snow in the winter, each changing season can be enjoyed at Kansui Park.

In the park's main area there is a waterfall feature that water splashes over in a long, curving curtain every 20 minutes. Across from the waterfall is the Tenmon bridge, the symbol of the park that spans the canal. The unmei no akai ito (red string of fate) telephone stretching between the bridge's two observation towers is well known as a place to confess your love. On a clear day, you can catch a stunning view of the Tateyama mountain range from the center of the bridge.

There are about 1.8 km of walking paths along the banks of the canal that you can stroll, jog, or bike along. With curious art installations along the way and many benches to rest on, it's a great place to explore and recharge.

One of the main attractions of the park is a Starbucks Coffee with an award winning store design. It's often spoken of as "the most beautiful Starbucks in the world." Whether you chose to sit inside by the huge floor to ceiling glass windows or outside on the wrap around porch, it's waterfront location affords you an excellent view of the bridge, waterfall, and surrounding natural beauty of the park.

Other features of the park include a wild bird sanctuary and an outdoor stage where concerts, performances, and other events are held. There are also boat rides on the canal that take you on a cruise down to the historical Nakajima Lock or even all the way to the Iwase area by the ocean.

When evening falls, don't go home just yet! The colorful illuminations lighting up the bridge and waterfall are not to be missed! The lights are changed every few months so that the colors perfectly set the mood of the season.

Kansui Park is conveniently located just a short 9 minute walk away from the north side of Toyama station.
