In Video: Tokyo Grand Tea Ceremony

The best event to savour tea the Japanese way

If you have ever wondered which way is the Japanese way to drink tea, then you will find all the answers at the Tokyo Grand Tea Ceremony. The event takes place over 2 weekends every year – one in September at Edo-Tokyo Open-Air Architectural Museum in Higashi-Koganei, and the other in October at Hamarikyu Gardens.

The event features activities for any age and level of tea drinking, including workshops for those who wish to learn. You have the choice of experiencing the ceremony outside in the garden, indoors or even being served by high schoolers. Depending on the ceremony, the fees vary, but they start from a modest ¥300. And do make sure to sign up online for the indoor ceremony if you'd like to try that, because spaces are limited.
