Take A Tour of Tokyo's Todoroki Valley

A small oasis of nature in the center of Tokyo

Notice

Due to a fallen tree and subsequent surveyance in 2020, the main hiking promenade has been closed until the trail can be made safe again. Only the Japanese garden and Todoroki Fudoson Temple to the south side remain accessible — see the notice/map on this page.

Latest on Todoroki Valley

One of Tokyo’s most unconventional green spaces, Todoroki Valley is located just 20 minutes away from Shibuya Station and in the center of the densely populated Setagaya Ward.

Unlike many other places in Japan, Todoroki Valley is a simple walking trail adjacent to the Yazawa River and surrounded by a very dense forest that totally shields it from one of Tokyo’s busiest roads, Kan-Pachi Dori.

While the 1.2 km long walking trail of the Todoroki Valley is pure bliss, it is only at the end of the voyage that you can discover yet another hidden wonder with the Todoroki Fudo temple. Here you will be able to enjoy some delicious mochi (Japanese rice sweets) and ramune (Lemonade) as well as having the opportunity to let the gods hear your prayers and wash away your sins.
