Tucked away in a quiet corner of the trendy Shimokitazawa neighborhood is Tit Chai Thai restaurant (in Japanese). I stumbled upon this eccentric spot while wandering the neighborhood with a friend. I've come across some of my favorite Tokyo gems by meandering through the back streets of neighborhoods. Tit Chai appealed to me for its cheerful and eclectic mix of décor including a smattering of afro wigs, fresh plants, Thai sauces and colorful chalkboards. My draw towards the vibrant and gaudy served in my favor as the food was spicy and flavorful. The handwritten menus were a charming touch, fitting with the kitschy vibe. Visit during lunchtime for a set meal served with salad, soup and a beverage. With limited wait staff and one chef, the meals take time to prepare; set aside some time for a relaxing afternoon filled with tasty Thai food and shopping in this trendy district.
