teamLab Planets is an international art collective composed of artistic and technical experts who aim to create immersive experiences that challenge people’s preconceptions of the defined world. Journey into the fantastical scenes and reconsider your definition of reality.

teamLab Planets TOKYO in Toyosu, Tokyo, celebrated its third anniversary in July 2021 with the opening of a new Garden Area containing two interactive exhibits—Floating Flower Garden and Moss Garden of Resonating Microcosms. The two new installations will be on display until the end of 2022. Tickets for the entire teamLab Planets TOKYO experience cost 3,200 JPY.

Before entering the exhibits, teamLab Planets provides you with a locker to place all of your belongings. The subdued area of black walls and lockers creates a minimalistic atmosphere that calms the senses and prepares you for the exhibits ahead. Take off your shoes and be sure to bring your phone or camera to immortalize the memories. After setting off down a dark corridor, your journey begins.

Moss Garden of Resonating Microcosms

The moss garden stands out from the rest as it is the only exhibit located outside. Don a pair of sandals provided by the venue and venture outside into the one-of-a-kind garden. The scene changes dramatically depending on the time of day, so we encourage you to visit during daytime and nighttime.

Daytime

The daytime scene exudes a mystical aura. Step into the humid air and witness countless oval sculptures, called ovoids, scattered across a blanket of moss. An ever-present fog weaves through the organic forms as soft music plays overhead. The juxtaposition of the futuristic gleam of the ovoids and the natural tones of the moss create a mesmerizing scene. Push against the ovoids and watch them sway as they emit a chime like sound. The centered structures always realign themselves after moving, perhaps a testimony to the unexpected balance of the garden’s contrasting visuals. Just as you interact with the exhibit, so does nature. Rain, sun, and time of day all play a role in the exhibit, affecting the shape and color of the moss, ensuring that no two visits are the same.

Nighttime

At nighttime, the environment transforms into an otherworldly one. The silver ovoids each take on a life of their own, shining with 61 different colors. Nudge the oval sculptures and watch them shine with unique colors, which spread to nearby ovoids in a hypnotic dance.

Floating Flower Garden

After walking along another blackened corridor to dampen your senses, emerge into an explosion of floral sights and smells. The intoxicating aroma of flowers pervades the air as soft music complements the delicate tone. Walk barefoot among the collection of 13,000 live orchids suspended seemingly from the sky. Mirrored floors blur the dimensions of the room and create an infinite space, while white lighting highlights the magnificent plants.

When you approach the hanging orchids, they rise slowly to welcome your presence. Crawl, kneel, and even lay on the floor to witness different perspectives of yellows, pinks, whites, greens, and purples. Withered flowers fall and new ones bloom everyday, illustrating the cycle of life. Find peace in the tranquil display of nature and become one with the flowers. With all of teamLab Planets' state-of-art and technology-forward galleries, the flower garden reminds us that sometimes the most magical experiences are purely of the Earth.
