Tranquility at Tamagawadai Park

Zen moments along the Tama River

I came upon Tamagawadai Park the day after the devastating earthquake in March 2011. I was praying for serenity in the midst of the disaster, and I found it here in these gardens on a plateau along the Tama River.

Tamagawadai Park happens to be the site of ancient burial mounds and relics, dating to as far back as the 4th century. Modern excavations suggest that a great ruler must have had power over the entire area along the river.

The park is a great place to have some quiet time and to enjoy the beauty of nature. There are park benches where you can sit and read a book, and wooden trails that lead to the side of the plateau where you can see the Tama River.
