In just a few minutes walking distance from Higako sports center, there are several authentic Japanese restaurants. I love the area of Higashi Koganei because of its relaxed atmosphere and easy pace. There are several nice places to walk or cycle. With just a twenty minute train journey into Shinjuku, you are still near the center of Tokyo with the luxury of a peaceful and quiet neighborhood. The station is filled with fantastic restaurants and beautiful shops. I was lucky enough to stumble upon seika, a quant little ‘chuka ryori’, or Chinese restaurant. Seika specializes in ramen noodles, but has some delicious katsu don and other options if you want to stick to a Japanese dish. For those who love to eat local, this is definitely the place for you. The atmosphere is very easy going and quaint. The owners are lovely and went out of their way to make the experience as nice as possible, even bringing me some french fries as a welcome treat. The owners daughter brought me some beautiful origamis she had been working on over the last hour. If you want to eat like a local, then I would absolutely recommend Seika.
