Nestled in between the bright lights of Shibuya and the loud fashion of Harajuku is a small yet impressive antique market at Yoyogi park. The Ooedo Market takes place once a month and is easy to miss if you walk by the area without looking for it. Located next to the Yoyogi Events Plaza, the tree lined street holds over a hundred local stalls filled to the brim with kimonos, vintage jewellery, Japanese toys, handmade pottery and lots of other miscellaneous items that locals no longer have a need for.
The rain held off on the day I visited and enabled the flamboyant attendees to exhibit their wares with a smile. An eclectic mix of people attend the market and makes for great people watching.
I ended up buying a huge piece of amethyst for ¥500 and a handmade scarf to keep warm. The locals were friendly and up for a chat about anything and everything.
It is on between 9am - 4pm, weather pending.
