Residing just a mere seven minute walk from the main gallery of the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, is the Kōgeikan Crafts Gallery. An annex of the Museum opened in 1977, it displays textiles, ceramics, lacquer ware and other Japanese crafts as well as craft and design from around the world dating from the late 19th century to the present. Its collection focus in particular is the work of Japanese Living National Treasures. The current exhibit "From Crafts to Kogei" commemorates the 60th Japan Traditional Art Crafts Exhibition. If you happen to be in the area on January 26th or February 22nd 2014, the gallery is having a special event called "Touch and Talk" with English speaking staff. Visitors will be able to touch craft pieces and hear detailed information on how they were made.
