Hanahata Memorial Garden in Tokyo's Adachi Ward is set to host a special autumn illumination event, offering visitors a chance to enjoy the garden's peak seasonal colors in a completely different atmosphere. The illuminations will take place over seven evenings, from November 21st to 24th and November 28th to 30th, when the garden's maple trees typically reach their vibrant best.
During the event, the strolling garden will be lit with warm, atmospheric lighting that highlights its paths, ponds, and colorful foliage. The combination of traditional Japanese landscape design and the glow of the illuminations creates a scene that feels postcard-worthy, inviting visitors to slow their pace and take in every detail.
In addition to all of the natural beauty, Oukatei Café inside the grounds will also be open during the illumination hours. Guests can enjoy hot drinks and seasonal sweets such as oshiruko (sweet red bean soup) and cakes while looking out over the illuminated garden. A hojicha set will be available for 500 JPY, making it an ideal way to warm up before or after a walk through the grounds.
Two types of guided tours will be offered on select days. The Garden Guided Tour, held on November 23rd and 30th, will introduce the highlights of Hanahata Memorial Garden from a gardener's perspective. On November 23rd, the Flower Field Guided Walk will take visitors through the surrounding area to learn about local nature and history.
