Asakusabashi Chestnut Festival 2025

Enjoy a community festival with local food and parades

Venue
Asakusabashi
When
Mid May 2025

The Asakusabashi Kohaku Marronnier Matsuri (Red and White Chestnut Festival) is a local community festival held annually in the middle of May each year where locals of all ages come out to celebrate what is great about the local neighbourhood. There are lots of performances throughout the festival, food stalls selling typical festival food like karaage and yakisoba, a parade and even a market with local shop owners that is supposed to represent a miniature Asakusabashi.

It is a nice, community festival to visit that is uncrowded but has lots going on especially if you arrive at 10am like we did for a chance to see the opening ceremony. Watch the video below to get an idea of the lively festival.

I've watched similar Kagurazaka Matsuri and it was so bright and cheerful! I enjoyed it a lot!

It is not always the big, but the small local festivals, which are a real treat!

Especially when we walked from the Sanja Matsuri where we were getting crushed into the roller doors along Nakamise-dori, to this festival where there would've been more people participating in the festival then watching it.
