Design your space with scent

When we think of designing our space, we rarely think about how the place smells, but good scents are part of the overall experience of what we consider comfortable and attractive spaces. Scents figure so much in our psyche that they can transport us through space and time with a single whiff.

For thousands of years, humans have been incorporating natural scents into their lives. Opening a window is one of the simplest and most straightforward ways to bring in fresh air carrying the fragrance of seasonal plants. We cut flowers and display them both for their beauty and their perfume. For longer lasting smells, we furnish our homes with aromatic wood and plants (i.e. reeds, tatami mats).

@aroma's essential oil blends are made from 100% pure natural ingredients extracted from the flowers, leaves and fruits of various plants and trees. Aroma specialists draw out the individuality and latent power of each scent, skillfully blending them for different functions and attractiveness. @aroma harnesses this invisible force of nature to boost the appeal of spaces.

@aroma is proud of its sources. They visit production areas and check the safety and quality of their essential oils, working to increase the ratio of certified organic oils for traceability, and complying with the standards of the IFRA for regulations on the safety of fragrances. One of their scents is called JB05 Hokkaido Hakka. There are 100 types of Japanese peppermint but Hokkai JM-23 is a rare variety that is cultivated only in the farms of Mr. Hiroshi Segawa in Takinoue, a town in Northern Hokkaido. The leaves are harvested, dried, and carefully distilled during its peak time, resulting in the characteristic gentle refreshing scent.

While it's possible to buy @aroma products online, a trip to their branch at the Tokyu Plaza Shibuya is recommended in order to experience the scents firsthand.

Getting there

Wow, Hokkaido has that many varieties of peppermint?

Scents are so evocative, so primal. I have a tiny amount of zukou, powdered incense from Koyasan that transports me there. Maybe I can visit Hokkaido for a few moments with peppermint...
