Although I grew up in Tokushima, I've been away from it for almost 20 years and every time I visit the place it's a treat to taste the food there. This time, after wandering about at Tokushima Castle Ruins for 3 hours, I went to one of many izakayas in the drinking district in Tokushima and met my old friend. Everywhere you go and anywhere you eat if you are in Tokushima you can rest assured that everything will taste good! Or, I may feel that way because I grew up eating the food of the region... This izakaya, 'Uo-Roman' specializes in fish caught in Naruto, the seaside town renowned for Naruto Whirlpools. The price is around 3,000 yen per person, including lots to drink! Reasonable!

Tables on the 3rd floor

Sudachi Chu-hai (Shochu mixed with soda). Sudachi is one of Tokushima's specialties; green-colored small citrus. They are very expensive when bought outside Tokushima, but here, they are common and you eat it every day. What a luxury!

Menu of Uo-Roman. Many kinds of fish dishes are available

One of Tokushima's specialties, 'Komatsushima Fish-cutlet'. Komatsushima is the name of a city/area, and this cutlet is usually sold at any supermarket in Tokushima. You grow up eating this. This Izakaya version is somehow spruced up to look/taste more special, but I prefer the supermarket version that I'm familiar with!

Sashimi (sliced raw fish) of Tai (sea bream). Natural sea bream is also one of Tokushima's specialties. You can't leave Tokushima without tasting this!

This one is 'Sudachi Ume-shu', Sudachi is citrus, Ume is plum

Matcha (green-tea) Ice Cream with boiled & sweetened red bean

Corner of 3rd floor tables

Ladies' bathroom is called 'Hime (Princess)' here, and of course, males' is called 'Tono (Lord)', not Prince, mind you

On the left side are 1F counter seats

Menus on the wall just beside the entrance
