If you are looking for a good beach to hang out at in summer, you might consider Oge Island in Naruto. This bump on Shikoku, sticking out into the sea in the direction of Awaji Island, has a long sandy beach. It's not perfect. A busy highway runs beside it, and rather ugly concrete sea walls might offer tsunami or storm protection, but do little to enhance appearances. However, as you can see in these photos taken on a hot summer day in early September, we had it all to ourselves! Add that to the rural, slightly shabby seaside charm of this small port, and Naruto's beach starts to seem very attractive.
If you get tired of swimming and sunbathing, you can visit Otsuka Museum, check out nearby Naruto Whirlpools, or go and explore Tokushima.
