Nikko’s Senjo-ga-hara Marsh

The start of this 6 kilometer hike when heading down from Yudaki Falls in the north

You will soon notice that most of the trail runs parallel to the Yu-River

At some points the forest opens out into a flat plateau

After about half an hour you will reach Senjo-ga-hara marsh

Just one of the many mountain ranges which surround these marshes

These lush marshlands make an impressive sight

When heading further south towards Ryuzu Falls the landscape gradually forms into semi coniferous forest containing many localized plant life

An entrance/exit towards the southern half of this walking course, designed to protect this unique ecosystem from `outside contamination`

Despite the early morning there were many other people around

Ryuzu falls. For most people this will probably be the start of your walk however, because I was starting from Yudaki Falls in the north this marked my finish point where the bus stop is a short walk away

Starting at the mouth of Lake Yunoko in the north and running down south towards the shores of Lake Chuzenji is a vast area of marshland known as Senjo-ga-hara.

Surrounded by beautiful mountains on either side, this vast plateau stretches for over 8 kilometers along a series of flat wooden boardwalks through the heart of a pristine wilderness providing the perfect opportunity to enjoy the best of Nikko`s great natural wonders.

Within close access to public transport, this course has many conveniently located rest stops making it enjoyable for everyone throughout any time of the year
