Mt. Ko-Maruyama (1601meters) is located within Nikko’s Kirifuri-kogen highlands. It is one of the Mt. Maruyama hiking courses. This course is very slippery year round because it’s almost always misty and foggy here. But the splendid scenery that awaits you when you arrive at the top is worth the climb. The start is near Kirifuri-kogen bus stop and requires a 90-minute scramble up and down the mountain. Warning: Wear hiking boots! I was dumb enough to try it in sneakers, and my husband too. He slipped and fell five times!
