A few minutes' walk from Yaizu station in the suburbs of Shizuoka, Yaizu-jinja is a historical shinto shrine, which I visited during the New Year celebrations one January. As well as the handsome main hall, which has carvings on the side panels that are attractive but difficult to photograph well, there are some highly decorative small side shrines, and a number of statues and other monuments in the peaceful surrounding park.
