Fun for everybody at this gorgeous white sand beach

Big boys amazed by the waves too—oh yes, they were huge that day

Relaxed beach atmosphere early in the season

Lifeguards start their training as soon as it gets quieter in the late afternoon

Late afternoon, just before the sun goes down

Kisami-Ohama Beach near Shimoda is definitely my favorite beach in the area, and thanks to a direct train from Tokyo it makes it a fantastic weekend getaway. The waters are crystal clear, the sand is white and the beach has a very natural setting—no large road or big hotel spoil the view. A big Thank you to my husband Stefan who has agreed to share his pictures on this site!

Agreed - it's great in September and even into part of October. The water is still warm and it's practically deserted.

Thanks Selena! I can't wait to go again. I actually prefer to go outside the season when there are no lifeguards and I basically have the beach and the water to myself :-)

Nicole, this is my favorite beach in Honshu (well up there in a tie with Kujukuri beach in Chiba) and I've been there several times - such a lovely place and great pics!
