Koma Old Town House

A beautifully restored historic house

The Koma Old Town House is distinguished by its beautiful stone walls.

Upon entering, visitors can enjoy a spacious Japanese style garden that overlooks Kinchakuda.

At the entrance of the main house is a place to kindle a fire, where tea was probably served.

Some old kitchen implements include sifters, baskets, and jars.

Behind the house is a still functional water pump.

The storehouse now houses various exhibits. It regularly displays old photos of Koma.

The old cooking stove, plain and simple, must have been sturdy and functional in its prime.

This building, separate from the main house, regularly displays large watercolor paintings of Kinchakuda in the different seasons. This building is sometimes used for different exhibits as well.

Just a 15 minute walk from Koma Station and along the main road sits the majestic Koma Old Town House, a beautifully restored historic residence of the Arai family, one of the richest families and formal leaders of Koma. The house was built at the end of the Edo Period. It is now a museum open to the public and admission is free.

Can you see Kimchakuda from the house? Such a beautifully restored house must be a great photo spot.

You can definitely get a good view of Kinchakuda from the garden. It's amazing that entrance is free.
