The Tenjin Matsuri, with a history stretching over a thousand years, is said to be the greatest festival in Osaka. Occurring on the 24th and 25th of July, there are three major parts: Yomiyasai, Rikutogyo, and Funatagyo.
Rikutogyo starts in the early afternoon of the 25th and proceeds from Temmangu Shrine past the public hall to the bridge where they board for the Funatogyo ceremony at Tenjinbashi-Kitazume. The start of the procession is dedicated to Osaka’s prosperity and citizens' peace. You'll see the ohaguruma, the car of the Heian nobility, which follows the gohuren, which takes place in the center of the parade.
