A kotatsu is one of the best parts of winter in Japan, perfectly combining warmth, comfort, and social connection. This traditional heated table is covered with a thick blanket, creating a cozy space where families and friends can gather to eat, chat, or relax during the colder months. Although they're usually used in the home, the kotatsu has been creatively reimagined with the Sky Kotatsu Ferris Wheel event, a popular seasonal attraction at the Osaka Wheel that has drawn thousands of attendees in previous years.
Running from early December until the end of February, the event is a must-try for locals and tourists seeking a memorable winter experience. Guests get to relax in gondolas outfitted with cozy kotatsu tables, which are styled in a nostalgic Showa-era theme. The 18 minute ride offers some fantastic panoramic views of Osaka’s skyline, with the city lights creating a romantic atmosphere at night.
During the experience, passengers can enjoy hot canned oden—a traditional Japanese winter dish provided by Tengu Canned Foods—and sip warm sake from the historic Kenbishi Sake Brewery, established in 1505. Non-alcoholic beverages are also available for those who prefer them.
Ticket packages start at 1600 JPY for a single lap (the price includes oden), and two-lap rides are available for those wanting an extended experience. Guests selecting sake will also receive a complimentary keepsake cup as part of the package. Whether you visit during the day or at night, the Kotatsu Ferris Wheel offers a warm and relaxing escape from winter's chill alongside some breathtaking views of Osaka’s scenery from above.
