Gyukatsu and Art Unite at Expo 2025

Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu opens its largest-ever store at the event

One of Japan’s most beloved beef cutlet brands is stepping into the global spotlight at Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai with the debut of its largest location yet. Opened on April 13th, Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu’s new flagship store offers a blend of art, flavor, and innovation for international visitors eager to experience Japanese cuisine.

Located inside the Expo grounds, the restaurant spans 400 square meters and seats up to 180 guests, which is five times more than a typical location. Aside from its larger capacity, a big part of what makes this venue so special is that it offers more than just a meal. Inside, visitors can admire a six-meter mural created by Kyoto-based artist group Daruma Shoten, which tells a visual story of beef cutlets spreading from Kyoto to the world.

For a more refined dining experience, private rooms are available by reservation. These elegant spaces are inspired by traditional Japanese architecture, and offer exclusive menus such as the Japanese Black Beef Fillet Cutlet Gozen, alongside a quiet atmosphere to enjoy every bite.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the restaurant uses reusable furnishings and building materials. After the Expo, many of these elements will be repurposed for future stores, making it a model for eco-conscious design.

With exclusive menu items, plant-based options, eye-catching interior features, and the largest seating capacity in the brand’s history, this flagship store is a destination that reflects Kyoto’s culinary roots and Japan’s forward-thinking creativity, all in one unique dining experience.

Getting there

The Expo 2025 venue can be accessed via Yumeshima Station on the JR Chuo Line. Direct buses from locations like Kyoto Station will also operate to and from the event.
