Sanrio is beginning a major makeover of its long-running Harmonyland theme park in Hiji Town, turning it into a full entertainment resort that brings together Oita's scenery, hot springs, and relaxed local vibe with the world of Hello Kitty and friends.
Harmonyland has been part of the area since 1991, and the new resort plan builds on the already strong partnership between Sanrio, Oita Prefecture, and Hiji Town. You may have already spotted hints of the collaboration, including the rebranding of Oita Hello Kitty Airport and the Harmony Liner bus that connects the airport, Kitsuki Station, and the park.
