Nagushiyama is a mountain in Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, which sits at 234 meters in height. The mountain offers panoramic views of the cityscape, harbor, and surrounding mountains, making it a popular destination for nature enthusiasts and photographers alike. It's a particularly stunning spot during the spring months when thousands of azalea bushes bloom in shades of pink, red, and white, and an annual festival is held during this period to celebrate the flowers.

The event has been running for over 40 years now, and there is a small admission fee of ¥500 charged during the azalea blooming period.

Getting there

The venue is located approximately 30 minutes from the Saza IC on the Nishikyushu Expressway. Free on-site parking is available for up to 500 vehicles.

For those visiting the area via public transport, buses are available from Sasebo Station, with the travel time taking approximately 80 minutes. Take the bus bound for Okase via Kusudomari, and alight at the stop for Nagushiyama Koen Iriguchi. The venue is around 15 minutes on foot from there.
