History and endurance meet at the Ueda Battlefield Half Marathon, taking place in early October in the scenic city of Ueda, Nagano Prefecture. The race begins and ends at Ueda Baseball Stadium (located within the historic Ueda Battlefield Park), and this picturesque area was once the site of fierce Sengoku-era battles involving famous warlords Takeda Shingen and Murakami Yoshikiyo.

Today, runners will retrace that storied ground surrounded by the beauty of the Nagano countryside. There are four race categories to choose from: a Half Marathon and 10km course for high schoolers and up, a 2.5km Challenge Run for elementary school students and older, and a Family Run over the same 2.5km distance. All participants receive a commemorative towel, and families are especially welcome.

Ueda is well known as the home of the legendary Sanada clan and boasts a rich mix of cultural heritage, hot springs, traditional crafts, and local cuisine. After the run, visitors can unwind at nearby historical spots or shop and snack at the popular LINK Marche, held on the same day. Located just 90 minutes from Tokyo via Shinkansen, Ueda makes for an easy and rewarding day trip or weekend getaway.

Parking and free shuttle buses from Ueda Station are available. Please visit the official site for full details or to register, and note that applications close for this year on August 3rd.

Getting there

Ueda Baseball Stadium is located around 10 minutes driving time from Ueda Station. A free shuttle bus will be operated between the station and the venue for participants.
