Miyazaki's Yunomiya Zaronbai is one of only 5 nationally designated plum tree natural monuments in Japan, and as a result is regarded as one of the region's premier plum blossom destinations. The trees here are estimated to be anywhere from 300 to 600 years old, and an evening illumination event will be held this year so people can appreciate their beauty after dark.
The illuminations will start from around 17:30 and run until approximately 21:00, and the event will also include various cultural performances and food available for purchase including local buckwheat noodles.
For the budding photographers, an Instagram photo contest is also being held in conjunction with the event – if you use the hashtag #座論梅 (Zaron plum) you can be in the running for a prize.
