The Ogaki Shoten Book, Magazine and Stationery Store has been a Kyoto Institution since 1942, with over 10 branches in this city. The Karasuma Oike store has a fantastic range of novels, manga as well as educational books. The large floor to ceiling windows frame this space which is decorated in neutral tones. The colorful pastel display of stationery and journals are a visual feast and you can even your fix of the Moleskine legendary diaries and planners. Its selection of English language novels and guidebooks is one of the largest in Kyoto, including John Grisham and Mark Haddon. If you are hungry, head down to Iyemon Salon Café or the aptly named Library Café at the Hotel Monterey, both heading towards the Shijo commercial district.
