The art collective Naked has gained notoriety for hosting incredible light and projection mapping events, and a new one coming to Kyoto's Heian Shrine this December is bound to follow that precedent. Naked Yorumode Heian Jingu includes a brightly illuminated Oten-mon Gate (the front gate of the shrine), along with various light and sound displays at the shrine's Main Hall, Souryu-rou Tower, and garden grounds.

The event also provides an inventive way of keeping a level of social distance from others -- the Naked Distance Lanterns ® project beautiful light circles on the ground, giving an indication of how far from others you should stand.

Even sanitizing your hands is done in style at this event, with flower projections displayed on visitors' palms as the sanitizer is dispensed.

What a brilliant idea, pun intended!

Back in 2008 when Meiji Jingu celebrated its 50th anniversary of rebuilding, they opened up for evenings and it was spectacular. Shrines are otherworldy in the evening.

There really is something special about enjoying shrines and temples after dark! Just a completely different perspective than during daytime.
