Kyoto Maruyama Park

Delicate cherry blossoms & colorful autumn leaves

Cherry blossoms in early April and autumn leaves in late November are both splendid in Maruyama Koen Park. Located just east of Yasaka Jinja Shrine, it is a short 3-minute-walk from Gion Bus Stop. 680 cherry trees are scattered over 86,600 square meters of Japanese gardens, with people enjoying flower-viewing parties under the trees in spring. Then in autumn, maple and cherry trees change the leaves red, and the best season for taking pleasant walks comes. The park was built in 1886 for the citizens of Kyoto and visitors, and the Japanese garden was designed and built in 1912 by a prominent garden designer, Ueji VII. The entire area is open to the public throughout the year.
