Splendid reconstruction of the reception hall

The first view of the restored reception hall; looks simple, but it already has a certain wow effect.

I think the reception hall would have left quite an impression on me even without any opulent decorations. I particularly liked this adjoining room, the decoration being more subtle.

However, getting to the most extravagant rooms finally took my breath away. The paintings are all accurate copies of the originals from the Edo period. They are the quintessence of Japanese beauty.

The colors and the accuracy of the paintings are truly amazing, ...

... and it is hard to actually grasp the scope of the works and the detail of each painting. I was so mesmerized by these wall paintings here, ...

... that I almost forgot to look up and admire the ceiling.

I am often a bit disappointed when I hear "This is a reconstruction, the original building burnt down". In the case of Kumamoto Castle however, there is no need to be disappointed at all. The reception hall in particular, the rooms inside Honmaru Goten Palace, where the lord would receive his guests, has left me speechless. It is a splendid reconstruction; elegant, striking, colorful, mesmerizing. This room alone would make a visit to Kumamoto Castle worthwhile.

Love the simplicity of the reception hall and the elegant golden designs seen in the distance!

I first came to Kumamoto Castle last decade. It was a beautiful place then, but I never realised it was this beautiful inside! Like a novel, this place is even more interesting on a second visit. Love it!

I felt the same as you. I was astonished on the 5th picture, but when I saw the roof picture on the 6th, I almost fell from my chair... Wow!

Japanese architectures were build with wood and people were so scared of fire back in those days. It's shame that many castles, temples, houses were burnt and we can't see those now.
